Chart notes:
Troye Sivan has knocked his own song off the top of the LGBT chart this week. Troye's "I'm So Tired" (a collaboration with Lauv) moves up 3 spots to claim the #1 position, which pushes "Lucky Strike" back one space to land at #2 for the week.
Russian duo N.E.F.O.R.M.A.T received the most votes this week, which helps to propel them up 5 more spots to #3. The remainder of the Top Five are: Australian drag queen Courtney Act (dropping a spot to #4) and American singer Erik Altemus (moving up 8 spots to #5).
Nine songs fell off the chart this week to make way for nine new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Venus Or Mars" by Daniel Schuhmacher, coming in at #24. In 2009, Daniel was the winner of the sixth season of Deutschland such den Superstar (the German version of American Idol). Later that same year, his first single ("Anything But Love") hit #1 in 3 countries (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Daniel came out as gay in 2014.
The song that received the most votes last week was "Lingering Wine" by Pragya Pallavi, but it hadn't yet reached my Top 50. Those points helped push her video up onto the countdown faster, and this week she debuts at #25. The song is being billed as "the first ever release in India by an openly queer Indian artist since the legalisation of homosexuality in the country". The video has already gotten more than 61,500 views on YouTube.
The official video for "Melancholic Paradise" by Tokio Hotel (which is at #28 on my chart this week) has suddenly disappeared from YouTube. The site's automated bots are infamous for flagging videos indiscriminately for "copyright violations" and sometimes they even take down the official videos from an artist's own channel. (Other artists who've been affected by this have included Maroon 5, Cardi B, Fifth Harmony, and Travis Scott.) Usually it's only temporary and the video gets restored, but in the meantime I'll be substituting the lyric video for that song into my playlists.
Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week's position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) my votes, (4) views on YouTube and percentage of increase in views from one week to the next, and (5) any votes I've received by Thursday morning. If you'd like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
