Midweek Music Update

 for 29th May, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this section will be relatively new (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take them an additional few weeks to work their way onto my chart.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Running from Me" by American singer Parker Matthews. Originally from Pittsburgh, the out singer/songwriter now resides in Los Angeles. As I write this, the video has 176,824 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, it's gained an additional 36,021 views (an increase of 27.81% from the week before).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Nightmare" by American singer Halsey. In her last appearance on the LGBT chart (with "Without Me", in January), Halsey reached the Top 20 (peaking at #19). The openly bisexual singer says that she chose the stage name Halsey because she spent a lot of time on Halsey Street in Brooklyn when she was a teenager, and also because it's an anagram of her real name (Ashley). Her latest video currently has 24,344,242 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Blow It All" by German singer Kim Petras. The prolific transgender musician has released five new videos in the last five weeks. Based on YouTube views alone, it appears that this might be the first of those 5 to make it onto the LGBT chart. The clip now has 4,094,409 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!

Chart notes:
It came as no surprise that Dutch singer Duncan Laurence, after winning the Eurovision 2019 song contest in Tel Aviv, gained a huge number of views for the "Arcade" video. The clip registered more than 4.6 million additional views on YouTube this week (an increase of a whopping 59.52% from the previous week) and those extra points have helped to push him back up to #1. This is the second non-consecutive week at #1 for "Arcade".

The remainder of the Top Five this week are: American musician Greyson Chance (holding steady again for a 3rd consecutive week at #2), Ukrainian singer Maruv (rebounding 2 places to spend a 2nd week at #3), New Zealand quartet Openside (slipping 3 notches to #4), and the collaboration from American acts Lil Peep & ILoveMakonnen (climbing a spot to #5).

Seven songs fell off the chart this week to make way for seven new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Think of Me" by Australian duo The Veronicas, coming in at #23. Allen King, Chase Sansing, and Zolita are all returning to the chart this week with new videos as well. Three artists (Rob.B, Jaak, and Boy Untitled) are making their very first appearances on the LGBT chart.

British singer-songwriter Katey Brooks has released a brand-new official video for "All of Me", which will replace the "live session" video on my playlist going forward. The song slipped eight spots this week to #45, after debuting last week at #37. With the new video getting plenty of views, it's still possible for her to rebound and make a comeback next weekend. Only time will tell.

Chart positions are based on points assigned from: (1) the previous week's position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) views on YouTube from the past 7 days, (4) percentage of increase in views from the week prior, (5) my votes, and (6) any votes I've received by Thursday morning. If you'd like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
