Midweek Chart: 02 February 2022

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Midweek Chart for 2nd February, 2022

Chart notes:
Spanish vocalist Apolo gets his first #1 hit on the LGBT chart with "Mi Príncipe", climbing 2 notches from the weekend's #3 position. The track, whose title translates to "My Prince" in English, increased in popularity after going viral on TikTok. Over the past three days, the video for "Mi Príncipe" has gained an additional 403 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 3.49% since the weekend's chart).

Only two videos move up into the Top 10 at midweek, both of which are re-entering the Top 10 after having slipped further down the chart. Mexican singer Yari Mejía is rebounding 9 spots to #7 with "Mexa", while Belgian/French musician Angèle is moving back up 4 places to #10 with "Démons".

Once again, we have no American artists in the Top 10. As I wrote on the weekend entry, this is highly unusual (simply because the U.S.A. tends to produce a much higher number of music videos than other countries). Acts from Europe, Brazil, and Mexico have been dominating the charts lately. Artists from Spain, in particular, are finding great success on the LGBT chart recently: in the same chart that a Spanish singer reaches #1, we have our highest debut from another Spaniard.

Seven songs fall off the chart to make way for seven new songs. The highest debut at midweek was "Castillos De Arena" by Spanish singer/songwriter Pablo Alborán, entering the chart at #34. Pablo recently told Puerto Rican magazine Metro that the lyrics for this track, whose title translates to "Sand Castles" in English, are about "an impossible love" and "a constant struggle to get who you want". In the futuristic video clip, he plays an astronaut who returns to a destroyed planet Earth to find a child dressed in red (which is a symbol of rebirth). Over the past half-week, the video for "Castillos De Arena" has gained an additional 273,347 YouTube views (which is a huge increase of 10.08% over the previous chart period!).

Further down the chart, we have 6 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from Brazil, the U.S.A., and Taiwan:
  • Lai Yanju (from Taiwan)
  • Hurray For The Riff Raff (from Louisiana, USA)
  • Sarah Barrios (from Connecticut, USA)
  • Fiákra (from Brazil)
  • Davi Sabbag (from Brazil)
  • Joshua Bassett (from California, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist & they must be available on YouTube.
