Chart notes:
Canadian musician Alexander Stewart (from Toronto, Ontario) grabs the #1 spot on Tad's LGBT Music Chart at midweek with "Leave Me in the Dark", moving up 3 more places from the weekend's #4 position. Alexander has already had chart success in Canada, but he's been steadily gaining fans around the world from his videos on YouTube and TikTok. He told BBC Newsbeat recently that his lyrics purposely avoid gender pronouns in order to include the LGBTQ community and fans who might still be trying to figure out their sexual orientation. Alexander said, "I've always preferred gender-neutral lyrics because I think it's important that everyone can relate." Over the past three days, the video for "Leave Me in the Dark" has gained an additional 116,718 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 4.71% since the weekend's chart).
Three videos move up into the Top Ten at midweek, including a return from a former #1 hit: Italian/Norwegian singer/songwriter Alessandra Mele rebounds back up 3 places to #9 with "Queen of Kings". American DJ/producer Diplo (from Hendersonville, Tennessee) and American singer/actress Dove Cameron (from Burbank, California) climb 10 notches to #7 with "Use Me (Brutal Hearts)". They're joined in the Top Ten by American singer/songwriter Chappell Roan (from Willard, Missouri), who's rising 1 more spot to #10 with "Kaleidoscope".
Thirteen songs fall off the chart to make way for thirteen new songs. The midweek chart features 13 debuts by LGBTQ artists from Germany, Canada, the U.S.A., France, Mexico, and Sweden:
- Téo Lavabo (from France)
- Joy Oladokun (from Arizona, USA)
- Dorian Electra (from Texas, USA)
- Wincent Weiss (from Germany)
- Danni Moreno (from Mexico)
- Kaytraminé (from Quebec, Canada)
- Brianna Musco (from New Jersey, USA)
- Kelela (from Maryland, USA)
- Sophie B. Hawkins (from New York, USA)
- The Aces (from Utah, USA)
- Siovo (from Germany)
- Curtis Waters (originally from Alberta, Canada & now residing in North Carolina, USA)
- Oscar Zia (from Sweden)
Chart positions are determined by a system of points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the email address below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist and they must be available on YouTube.
