Midweek Music Update

 for 15th May, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's divided into two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional 2-3 weeks for them to work their way onto my chart.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Consider" by Dutch musician Douwe Bob. Douwe was the winner of the Dutch television competition De Beste Singer-Songwriter Van Nederland in 2012. He went on to represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, finishing in 11th place. Douwe came out publicly as bisexual in 2016. This song is featured both on The Shape I'm In (his 4th studio album) and on the soundtrack to the upcoming film Singel 39 (in which Douwe will make his acting debut). As I write this, the video has 29,928 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, it's gained another 7,168 views (an increase of 34.60% from the week before).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Think of Me" by Australian pop duo The Veronicas. The identical twin sisters (Lisa and Jessica Origliasso) started out as child actors before forming a musical group. Jess dated actress Ruby Rose for several years but their relationship ended in 2018, and that breakup inspired her to write this song. The clip currently has 1,168,245 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Peach" by American rapper/singer Kevin Abstract. Although members of his band Brockhampton appear in the video, the single is being treated as a solo release for Kevin (and likely that's because Brockhampton had previously released a different song called "Peach"). Kevin came out as gay in 2016. The video has 1,372,390 views on YouTube.

That's it for another Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!
