Midweek Music Update

 for 22nd May, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional 2-3 weeks for them to work their way onto my chart.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "No Soy Tam Malo" by Spanish singer (and porn star) Allen King. In his last two appearances on my chart, Allen reached the Top 15 (with "Mejor Me Quedo Solo" which peaked at #13 in February, and with "My Boy" which peaked at #2 in October). As I write this, Allen's latest video has 271,853 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, it's gained an additional 49,149 views (an increase of 22.97% from the week before).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Started" by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. Once again, Iggy (who's not an LGBT act) has enlisted drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race to appear in her music video. In this clip, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo help Iggy come up with a plot to kill off her wealthy sugar daddy. The video currently has 33,457,443 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "When I'm Over You" by American musician LP. Although this track was officially released in December 2018, its accompanying lyric video did not reach the Top 50 at that time. With a new video that was just released on May 2nd (from a live performance at YouTube Space LA), the song is now getting more views than ever. The video now has 866,403 views on YouTube.

That's it for another Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!
