Chart notes:
It's time for a reboot. When I started my current job in August 2022, I found that I had little time for anything else (including this chart). My blog and playlist began falling further and further behind until eventually, at the end of 2024, it had slipped more than 19 months behind and I was still trying to post music from May 2023. It was clear I would never be able to catch up. However, there were several things that made me want to continue doing this chart and its accompanying playlist. First of all was the fact that I truly enjoyed it. Secondly, I hated to give it up completely because I have been doing this chart for so long now. Finally (and most importantly) it was because there were still people who were enjoying it and wanting more. People were still watching my playlists, visiting my blog to view the charts, voting on the videos they wanted to see, subscribing to my YouTube channel, and sending me messages of encouragement through my email account.
I decided to start my chart anew in the new year. However, reviewing all the new music that might be eligible for the new chart was a daunting task. Instead of going through seven days' worth of new releases, I had a backlog of several months of new videos to watch. It's an understatement to say that this consumes a lot of time. It took me over a month to watch all the new videos released by LGBTQ acts near the end of 2024. (Additionally, I was sidetracked for several weeks by computer problems with my laptop and a severe case of influenza!) In the end, I selected 238 videos that were released between July 2024 and November 2024. I've finally gotten through all of that, collected the data on their YouTube views, and ranked them to produce an initial Top 50.
I also decided to start my new chart with December 2024 rather than January 2025. The chart will likely be tumultuous during the first few weeks, since the only data for the first few charts will be from YouTube views and my own votes. I'll still be a bit behind, but only by a couple of months which will make it possible to catch up. The charts will be more accurate once I reach January, as it will give other people time to watch and submit their votes and I can start introducing all the videos that were released from December until now.
For this first chart of December 2024, the Top Ten videos are from England, South Korea, the U.S.A., Australia, Sweden, Japan, Suriname, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Canada:
- Xikers (from South Korea)
- Anne-Marie (from England, U.K.)
- Katy Perry (from California, U.S.A.)
- JoJo Siwa (from Nebraska, U.S.A.)
- Kylie Minogue (from Australia), Bebe Rexha (from New York, U.S.A.), & Tove Lo (from Sweden)
- Charli XCX (from England, U.K.) & Billie Eilish (from California, U.S.A.)
- XG (originally from Japan & now residing in South Korea)
- Jeangu Macrooy (originally from Suriname & now living in the Netherlands)
- Sabrina Carpenter (from Pennsylvania, U.S.A.)
- Orville Peck (originally from South Africa & now residing in British Columbia, Canada)
Voting:
Chart positions are determined by a system of points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message via email (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are welcomed, but they must meet the following criteria:
- Must be from an LGBTQ artist. For a duo/group, at least one member must identify as LGBTQ.
- Video must be available on YouTube.
- Video may not contain more than one minute of audio that is not music (such as dialogue).
- Video must have at least 500 views.
- Video must be longer than 2 minutes, but shorter than 6 minutes.
- Release date of the YouTube video must be within the past three to four months.
