Midweek Chart: 30 March 2022

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Midweek chart for 30th March, 2022

Chart notes:
Scottish musician Joesef stays put at #1 on the LGBT midweek chart with "It's Been a Little Heavy Lately". The clip is intended to be a prequel for Joesef's 2021 video for "Comedown". The track has already made it onto the Top 15 of the iTunes digital streaming charts in three countries (#3 in Portugal, #8 in the Netherlands, and #12 in Belgium). It's also appeared on the SoundCharts radio airplay charts of ten countries, reaching the Top 5 in three of them (#3 in both France and Germany, and #5 in the U.K.). Over the past three days, the video for "It's Been a Little Heavy Lately" has gained an additional 17,652 views on YouTube (which is a massive increase of 17.90% since the weekend's chart!).

Three videos move up into the Top 10 at midweek, including a return from a former #1 hit: English singers Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama rebound back up 6 places to the #8 position with "Beg For You". American quintet New Kids On The Block (from Dorchester, Massachusetts) leaps ahead 14 notches to #7 with "Bring Back the Time". They're joined in the Top 10 by American duo The FMs (from Ithaca, New York), who climb 4 more spots to #9 with "T/riangle".

Four songs fall off the chart to make way for four new songs. The highest debut at midweek was "The Funeral" by English alt-rock vocalist Yungblud, entering the chart at #39. The video features guest appearances by Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne. At the end of the clip, we learn the reason for the funeral being held in the first place: it's because Ozzy and Sharon ran over Yungblud with a car. Yungblud says the lyrics (in which he asks how he'll be remembered at his funeral) are about "ego, death, rebirth, and fucking dancing on your own grave." Over the past half-week, the video for "The Funeral" has gained an additional 275,361 YouTube views (which is a huge increase of 13.59% over the previous chart period!).

Further down the chart, we have 3 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from England, the U.S.A., and France:
  • Chéri (from France)
  • Elton John (from England, UK)
  • Awfultune (from New York, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes, with YouTube views accounting for two-thirds of the total points. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist and they must be available on YouTube.

Chart Week 13 of 2022: 27 March

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Chart Week #13 of 2022: Week of 27th March

Chart notes:
Scottish singer/songwriter Joesef earns his first #1 on the LGBT chart this weekend with "It's Been a Little Heavy Lately", moving up 2 more places from the midweek's #3 position. The track's lyrics tell the story of a sort of overlapping love triangle between Joesef and a former lover who's now in a relationship with a woman. Joesef explains, "I wrote 'It's Been a Little Heavy Lately' about how I tend to make bad decisions when I'm down, and to be more specific it was giving in to the advances of someone I'd been with previously, while they were in a new relationship. I wanted the song to feel like a bad trip, so there's a lot of different textures: the tempos are higher, and the drums are slightly swung." Over the past four days, the video for "It's Been a Little Heavy Lately" has gained an additional 27,093 views on YouTube (which is a huge increase of 37.88% since the midweek's chart!).

Three videos move up into the Top 10 this weekend, including a return from a former #1 hit: Brazilian drag queen Gloria Groove rebounds back up 3 places to the #8 position with "Vermelho". American quartet The Regrettes (from Los Angeles, California) climbs 7 more notches to #6 with "You're So F*cking Pretty". They're joined in the Top 10 by American rapper Leikeli47 (from Brooklyn, NY), who's rising 5 spots to #9 with "B.I.T.M."

Thirteen songs fall off the chart to make way for twelve new songs and one re-entry. The highest debut this weekend was "Freak Out the People" by Argentinian/American musician Baby Yors, entering the chart at #30. Originally from Argentina, Baby Yors (whose real name is Marco Palou) has been living in the U.S.A. and recently relocated from New York City to Los Angeles. In a recent interview with Wonderland Magazine, Baby Yors spoke about growing up as a gay man in Argentina and said, "I was raised in a conservative, largely Catholic city where homosexuality is seen as something unholy, much like in many other parts of the world... The alienation that many queer people experience can become their strength. The inner voice that I found in solitude is personally my most valuable attribute. This song is an anthem of liberation. Not only for the queer but for the independent thinker, the other, the rebel, the alienated." Over the past half-week, the video for "Freak Out the People" has gained an additional 146,853 YouTube views (which is a massive increase of 57.85% over the previous chart period!).

Further down the chart, we have 11 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from France, England, the U.S.A., the Czech Republic, Germany, Thailand, and Australia:
  • Renato Salerno (from the Czech Republic)
  • Mike Taveira (from New Jersey, USA)
