Chart notes:
There's a new #1 video on the LGBT chart this week as "Play" by Jax Jones (with Years And Years) moves up a notch to claim the top spot. Years And Years had been nominated for Best British Band at this week's Brit Awards, but lost out to The 1975. They've also been nominated for three categories at the upcoming Global Awards (scheduled to take place on the 7th of March in London): Best Group, Best British Artist or Group, and Social Media Superstar.
The remainder of the Top Five this week are: Bilal Hassani (from France), Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus (from the UK and the USA, respectively), Troye Sivan (from Australia), and Lizzo (from the USA).
Nine songs fell off the chart this week to make way for nine new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Fight For Love" by Courtney Act, coming in at #25. Courtney (whose real name is Shane Gilberto Jenek) is an Australian drag queen who's appeared as a contestant on Australian Idol, RuPaul's Drag Race, Celebrity Big Brother UK, and is currently on Dancing With The Stars Australia.
Another notable new entry is "Haunted" by Shawnee, coming in at #49 this week. Shawnee is a transgender Mohawk singer who lives just a short distance from me in Quebec, Canada. Like most Native American tribes, the Mohawks traditionally believed that a "two-spirit" individual (one who has qualities of both male and female) was blessed with magical powers. I'm not sure if Shawnee has magical powers or not, but she certainly works some magic with her voice on this beautiful song.
Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week's position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) views on YouTube and percentage of increase in views from one week to the next, (4) my votes, and (5) any votes I've received by Thursday morning. If you'd like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
