Chart notes:
American singer/songwriter LP (whose real name is Laura Pergolizzi) has reached the top of the LGBT chart, as "The One That You Love" moves up one position to #1 this week. Originally from Long Island, she relocated to Los Angeles in 2010. At the beginning of LP's career, she was discouraged so much by her first two major-label deals that she nearly gave up on performing her own music to focus instead on writing songs for other artists. She finally found success with her own music in 2015 when "Lost on You" became a #1 hit in 18 countries. LP doesn't like to put a label on her sexuality, but she says that she's comfortable with the terms lesbian and gender-neutral and she adds that "I've never denied that I'm gay."
Nine songs fell off the chart this week to make way for nine new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Chuva" by Brazilian singer/actor Jaloo, entering the chart at #38. Jaloo (whose real name is Jaime Melo Júnior) began his career in 2010 by performing remixes and mashups on his YouTube channel. After releasing three EPs and two full-length albums, collaborating with other Brazilian artists like Davi Sabbag and Vini Uehara, and performing live at the Lollapalooza Brasil festival, Jaloo now has a wide fanbase in Brazil. He identifies as both gay and gender-fluid. This past week the video for "Chula" gained an additional 2,513 views on YouTube, which is an increase of 8.65% over the previous week.
Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week's chart position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) views on YouTube from the past seven days, (4) percentage of increase in views from the week prior, (5) my votes, and (6) any votes I've received before Wednesday morning. If you'd like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
