Chart Week 51 of 2020: Week of 20th December

Chart Week #51 of 2020: Week of 20th December

Chart notes:
Spanish vocalist Pablo Alborán manages to hang onto the #1 spot on the LGBT chart with "Si Hubieras Querido" for a second consecutive week. A few days ago, he sat down with Billboard magazine for an interview and talked about his life during this pandemic year. Pablo said that staying at home has given him time to reflect on the type of music he wants to do in the future, as well as the type of music that his fans want to hear. He said he's been passing the time (when he's not in the studio recording tracks) by learning how to dance the bachata and he's learned how to dye his mother's hair (although he jokes that it was all just "trial and error"). Over the past seven days, the video for "Si Hubieras Querido" has gained an additional 502,090 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 4.57% over the previous week).

Russian singer Maxim Voychak has made his video for "Mal'chik Gey" private on YouTube, essentially removing it from his YouTube channel. Although it still exists elsewhere on other YouTube channels, it is extremely difficult to swap out videos on this chart since my chart positions are based mainly on YouTube views. When I've tried doing this in the past, it has given an artificial boost in points to the song. If I were to use the only other available version of the official video on YouTube, he'd net an increase of nearly 900% (!) in YouTube views in just one week and that would catapult him right to the #1 spot. As such, it's best to just remove the track from the chart and allow another artist to have that opportunity. After three weeks on the chart, Maxim had peaked at #17 and is now no longer eligible for this chart with that particular track. However I will be watching for any future releases from him.

Eight songs fell off the chart this week to make way for eight new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Fall" by Boston musician MkX, entering the chart at #32. Although he's just starting out in his career, MkX has already worked with an impressive lineup of collaborators (such as Ariana Grande, Kim Petras, and Cupcakke). MkX identifies as an LGBT musician, although he says he doesn't like to put a label on his sexuality. In the past week, the video for "Fall" has gained an additional 14,773 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 49.21% over the week prior).

Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week's chart position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) views on YouTube from the past 7 days, (4) percentage of increase in YouTube views from the week prior, (5) my votes, and (6) any votes I've received by 12 noon (California time) on Wednesday. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info below).
