Chart notes:
For the second week in a row, Jax Jones and Olly Alexander (from Years And Years) have the #1 video on the LGBT chart with "Play". The song has now been certified silver (with sales of more than 200,000 units) in their native UK. The track appears on Jones's Snacks EP and also on a re-released version of the Palo Santo album from Years And Years (which is their 2nd studio album).

The remainder of the Top Five this week are: Troye Sivan (from Australia), Mark Ronson & Miley Cyrus (from the UK and the USA, respectively), Sam Smith & Normani (also from the UK and the USA), and Jão (from Brazil).

Eight songs fell off the chart this week to make way for eight new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Чужие Судьбы (Aliens Destiny)” by N.E.F.O.R.M.A.T, coming in at #24. This song about forbidden love actually violates the law in their native Russia, where it is illegal to show any depictions of homosexuality whatsoever. By posting this video to the internet, they risk their own freedom and perhaps even their own lives. Another Russian singer (Zelim Bakaev) went missing in 2017 and it is widely believed that he was killed because he was gay.

Another notable new entry is "Drama Queen" by Kfir, which debuts at #50 this week. Originally from Israel, Kfir studied ballet in London before moving to New York City. He appeared in Phantom of the Opera both on Broadway and in Las Vegas. An official video for "Drama Queen" was released in October 2018, but then it got a remix and a new video near the end of December. Transgender singer Jaimie Wilson (who is also on the chart at #30 this week with "Everything Is New") appears in this newer clip.

Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week’s position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) my votes, (4) views on YouTube and percentage of increase in views from one week to the next, and (5) any votes I’ve received by Thursday morning. If you’d like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
