Chart notes:
Troye Sivan's "Lucky Strike" has reached the #1 spot on the LGBT chart this week. Troye had the #1 song of 2018 on my special Year-End Chart, with "Bloom". His last single, "Revelation" (which falls off the Top 50 this week), peaked at #2. The last time he topped this chart (with the video for "Animal") was in October 2018. This week Troye has two tracks in the Top Five as his collaboration with Lauv ("I'm So Tired") moves up to #4 as well.
The remainder of the Top Five this week are: the duet from Sam Smith & Normani (from the UK and the USA, respectively), drag queen Courtney Act (from Australia), and the Mark Ronson/Miley Cyrus collaboration (also from the UK and the USA).
Nine songs fell off the Top 50 this week to make way for eight new songs and one re-entry. The highest debut of the week was "Vihaan Rakastaa Sua" by Tuure Boelius (from Finland), coming in at #25. The teen singer/YouTuber/actor has just recently competed on the Finnish version of Dancing With The Stars. This is the 3rd video from Tuure to make my chart, following up on "Oh Boe" and "Latkajatka-Ville" which appeared on my playlists in 2018.
This week I received more votes than usual, most of which were for a song which has not yet reached my Top 50. If you're voting for new songs that haven't yet reached the countdown, please be patient as it can sometimes take a week or two (and sometimes even longer) for them to debut here. In fact, I like to track the performance of new songs (in terms of YouTube views) for at least two weeks before introducing them onto my playlist. Rather than just tracking total YouTube views, I track the growth (as a percentage of the total YouTube views) so that lesser-known artists and independent musicians have a real shot here. The YouTube views are weighted more heavily on my chart than on some other websites, but you can be assured that your votes are being counted and will be included in the points assigned to that song going forward. If you vote for songs that are already in the Top 50, your votes will be counted that same week. As a reminder, voting is open from the time the chart is posted until Thursday morning (my time zone is eastern USA/Canada).
Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous
week’s position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) my votes, (4)
views on YouTube and percentage of increase in views from one week to
the next, and (5) any votes I’ve received by Thursday morning. If
you’d like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to
leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the
contact info above).
