Chart notes:
Australian musician Ben Hazlewood gets his first #1 on the LGBT chart with "Lay Me Down", which moves up two spots this week. Ben was raised in New Zealand, but now resides in Australia. He was a contestant on the third season of New Zealand Idol in 2006, and also appeared as a finalist on the inaugural season of The Voice Australia in 2012. Ben has been on the LGBT chart twice before (with "Louder Than Thunder" which peaked at #17 last year, and with "Sleeping Through Sirens" which peaked at #34 in February).

Nine songs fell off the chart this week to make way for nine new songs. The highest debut of the week was "No Words" by Dutch musician Dotan, entering the chart at #30. Dotan (whose real name is Dotan Harpenau) was born in Israel, but his family relocated to the Netherlands when he was just one year old. The singer-songwriter says that he wanted to come out as a gay man early in his career, but he was actively discouraged by his record label (EMI, which is now owned by Universal). He shared on Instagram that "I want to be honest about my orientation, because that is a big part of who I am. I have been trying to disguise it for years because I thought it would be bad for my career." He finally came out in 2019, ten years after two music executives had advised him to keep it a secret.

Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week's chart position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) views on YouTube from the past seven days, (4) percentage of increase in YouTube views from the week prior, (5) my votes, and (6) any votes I've received by Wednesday morning. If you'd like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
