Midweek Music Update
 for 4th September, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on all the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three new videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional few weeks for them to work their way onto my chart.

Although I mention the total number of views for each video below, song selections are based on YouTube views from the past seven days only.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Like Like" by gay English singer Lostchild. In his last appearance on the LGBT chart back in 2018, he made it all the way to #1 with his video for "Blacklist". As I write this, Lostchild's latest clip has 5,320 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, this video has gained an additional 3,342 views (an increase of 274.84% from the previous week). In other words, the YouTube views have nearly quadrupled in a single week. Those extra points will ensure that he debuts quite high on the chart this weekend.

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" by American quintet Pentatonix. The song is a remake of the 1994 hit by Elton John, which appeared on the original soundtrack for The Lion King. Two members of the Texas-based group (Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi) identify as gay. Their latest video currently has 3,494,628 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Hallucinations" by American rock band Pvris. They've already spent four weeks on the LGBT chart with their video for "Death of Me" (which rose 2 spots to #10 this week). The Massachusetts-based trio originally formed under the name Paris, but decided to change the letter 'a' to a 'v' to make it more distinctive. Lead singer Lynn Gunn came out publicly as a lesbian in 2015. Their newest clip now has 560,083 views on YouTube.

The third and final Fresh New Release this week is "Un Color A La Vez" by gay Colombian actor/singer Javier Ramirez. He's appeared in several Colombian movies and television shows, but he's best known for his role on the telenovela Mentiras Perfectas (which was based on the American TV series Nip/Tuck) from 2013 to 2014. Javier came out publicly as gay in 2017. The title of this song means "One Color At A Time" in Spanish. The video currently has 458,538 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a terrific week!
