Chart notes:
Halsey's collaboration with American DJ/producer Marshmello has reached the top of the LGBT chart, as "Be Kind" moves up one more spot to #1 this week. Halsey has spent part of her summer on the front lines of protests against police violence, even being hit by rubber bullets herself. She's been providing medical care to the protesters, writing on her Instagram account that "I have first hand treated men women and children who have been shot in the chest, the face, the back." This week she celebrated the five-year anniversary of her debut album's release (Badlands was released on August 28, 2015) by releasing a new live version that was recorded in 2019 at New York City's Webster Hall. Halsey has been outspoken about her bisexual identity since the very beginning of her career.
Ten songs fell off the chart this week to make way for ten new songs. The highest debut of the week was "Sad Child" by Swedish singers Sandro Cavazza and Brother Leo, entering the chart at #34. Sandro's last appearance on the LGBT chart was back in 2018 with the video for "High With Somebody". (The track was #12 for 2018 on my special Year-End Chart.) Brother Leo (whose real name is Ola Svensson) was invited to perform at the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia, and he used his platform to advocate for LGBT rights and to show his support for the LGBT community.
Chart positions are based on points assigned from (1) the previous week's chart position, (2) length of time on the chart, (3) views on YouTube from the past seven days, (4) percentage of increase in YouTube views from the week prior, (5) my votes, and (6) any votes I've received by Wednesday morning. If you'd like to vote for your favorite songs, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info above).
