Midweek Music Update

 for 17th July, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make it onto my Top 50 chart & playlist next weekend (based on all the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional few weeks to work their way onto my chart.

Although I mention the total number of views for each video below, song selections are based on YouTube views from the past seven days only.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Monstros" by bisexual Brazilian musician Jão. In interviews, Jão (whose real name is João Balbino) has revealed that his family refers to him by the childhood nickname "Joe". In addition to his vocal talents, he plays multiple musical instruments including the guitar, the piano, and the flute. This track from his 2018 album Lobos was never officially released as a single, but it has a new YouTube video (released in early June) from a recent live performance in Rio de Janeiro and it's quickly racking up lots of new YouTube views. As I write this, the clip has 315,503 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, it's gained an additional 57,845 views (an increase of 24.54% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Mother's Daughter" by pansexual American singer Miley Cyrus. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Miley told her fans that she still considers herself a part of the LGBT community despite her recent marriage to Liam Hemsworth. Miley, who has dated both men and women in the past, explained that you don't stop being queer just because your partner happens to be heterosexual. Miley has a long history of supporting LGBT causes, and she is the founder of the Happy Hippie Foundation (a nonprofit charity that assists homeless LGBT youth). Her latest video currently has 32,930,579 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Comin' In Hot" by gay American singer Adam Lambert. He's been busy touring with Queen, but Adam still finds the time to record and release new music as a solo artist. His last single ("New Eyes") made a long slow climb into the LGBT Top 50, and has spent the last two weeks at #45. Adam's latest video now has 2,224,033 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday (depending on your time zone) for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a terrific week!
