Chart notes:
Japanese J-pop artist Tokyo Gegegay scores a #1 hit on the LGBT chart this weekend with "Kamome Ga Tonda Hi", moving up one more place from the midweek's #2 position. The group was originally formed as a quintet in 2013 after participating in the television competition Dance Hero Japan and eventually winning the show's fifth season with a record-breaking score, which helped them launch a musical career. Tokyo Gegegay became known for their signature sound, incorporating catchy hooks with an odd song structure and explosive arrangement. In June of last year, they announced that the four female members would be leaving the group and that the group's openly gay leader Mikey (whose real name is Munetaka Maki) would continue using the name Tokyo Gegegay as a solo act. The title of this track translates to "The Day the Seagull Flew" in English. Over the past four days, the video for "Kamome Ga Tonda Hi" has gained an additional 11,183 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 1.01% since the midweek's chart).

Five videos move up into the Top 10 this weekend, including a return from a former #1 hit: American musician Omar Apollo (from Hobart, Indiana) rebounds back up 5 places to #7 with "Evergreen (You Didn't Deserve Me At All)". The other four videos entering the Top 10, coincidentally, are all from American acts as well. Transgender indie artist Carpetgarden (from Fresno, California) rises 12 notches to #3 with "Lonely". Country singer Chris Housman (from Hanston, Kansas) climbs 16 spots to #8 with "Bible Belt". Rebecca Black (from Irvine, California) moves up 4 more places to #9 with "Crumbs". They're joined in the Top 10 by singer/songwriter Andie Case (from Eugene, Oregon), who is leaping ahead 17 positions to #10 with her cover version of Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now".

Eleven songs fall off the chart this weekend to make way for eleven new songs The weekend chart features 11 debuts by LGBTQ artists from Brazil, the U.S.A., Australia, Germany, and Mexico:

  • Chameleo & Danny Bond (both from Brazil)

Chart positions are determined by points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the email address below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist and they must be available on YouTube.
