Chart Week #34 of 2021: Week of 22nd August

Chart notes:
Lil Nas X holds onto the #1 spot on the LGBT chart this weekend with "Industry Baby", his collaboration with rapper Jack Harlow. In an article published just a few days ago, VMan magazine described how Nas's career has taken off as he "leaned full force into his truth and embraced all facets of his being -- powering the rise of a new age emblem for queer liberation and expression." Nas gushed about his new boyfriend during the interview, saying that the relationship "just feels natural" and has been "effortless". While fans are speculating that he might be dating backup dancer Yai Ariza, Nas has not revealed his new boyfriend's identity but he also discussed it with Variety, saying that "I've found someone special now... I think this is the one. I can't explain it -- it's just a feeling." Over the past four days, the video for "Industry Baby" has gained an additional 4,686,366 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 5.73% over the previous chart).

Three videos move up into the Top 10 this weekend. American one-woman band Ariana And The Rose (which is the stage name used by New York City singer Ariana DiLorenzo) rises 9 notches to #6 with "Every Body". English vocalist Will Young climbs 5 places to #8 with "Crying on the Bathroom Floor". And finally, Canadian singer Theo Tams moves up 3 spots to #9 with "Quit U Love".

Seven songs fall off the chart to make way for seven new songs. The highest debut was "3 Purple Hearts" by Canadian musician Ryland James, entering the chart at #27. Ryland (who's from the small town of Deseronto, Ontario) began his career as a contestant on the television talent competition The Next Star in 2014. He came out publicly as queer in February 2021, about a month before he was nominated for two awards (Pop Album of the Year & Breakthrough Artist of the Year) at Canada's Juno Awards of 2021. The song title "3 Purple Hearts" refers to the fact that his boyfriend-to-be had commented on one of Ryland's Instagram photos before they started their relationship with three purple heart emojis. Over the past half-week, the video for "3 Purple Hearts" has gained an additional 33,622 YouTube views (which is an astounding increase of 240.96% over the previous chart!).

Further down the chart, we have 6 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from the U.S.A., Australia, and Sweden:
  • Fletcher (from New Jersey, USA)
  • Jason Mraz (originally from Virginia, USA)
  • Ben Platt (from California, USA)
  • Troye Sivan (from Australia)
  • Brother Leo (from Sweden)
  • Todrick Hall (originally from Texas, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist & they must be available on YouTube.
