Midweek Chart: 18th August 2021

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Midweek Chart for 18th August, 2021

Chart notes:
American singer Lil Nas X captures the #1 position on the Midweek LGBT Chart with "Industry Baby", a collaboration with American rapper Jack Harlow. The track has reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in the U.S.A., and is currently at #4 in radio airplay in the U.S. (according to the MediaBase CHR/Top 40 Chart) and at #3 in Canada. In the video, Nas breaks out of a prison which serves as a metaphor for homophobia. NPR elaborated, "It's understandable Lil Nas X would consider homophobia a prison, claustrophobic and imposing, especially in the music industry. As he becomes bolder in his lyrics and creative vision, Lil Nas X begins... carving out space for himself as an unapologetic messiah for today's young, queer generation." Over the past three days, the video for "Industry Baby" has gained an additional 5,516,941 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 7.24% over the previous chart).

Three videos move up into the Top 10. American country singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile jumps ahead 10 notches to #5 with "Right on Time". Mexican musician Raymix climbs 6 places to #6 with "No Pienso Caer". And finally, Belgian one-man band Oscar And The Wolf (the stage moniker used by Belgian musician Max Colombie) leaps up 11 more spots to reach #8 with "Oliver".

Ten songs fall off the chart to make way for ten new songs. The highest debut was "Forgot to Love You" by Australian singer/actress Hollie Col, entering the chart at #37. Hollie has previously appeared on this chart once before (with "She Knows", which peaked at #8 in May 2020 and spent a total of 7 weeks on the Top 50). Hollie released her debut EP as an independent artist in 2018 and has built a steadily-growing fanbase with her self-produced YouTube videos, but this track is her first single with a major label (the France-based distribution service Believe Digital Music, with whom she signed in July 2021). Over the past half-week, the video for "Forgot to Love You" has gained an additional 53,848 YouTube views (which is an increase of 28.90% over the chart prior).

Further down the chart, we have 9 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from England, the U.S.A., Wales, and the Netherlands:
  • The FMs (from New York, USA)
  • Mike Taveira (from New Jersey, USA)
  • Becky Hill (from England, UK)

  • Greyson Chance (from Oklahoma, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views & votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist & they must be available on YouTube.
