Midweek Chart: 09 March 2022

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Midweek Chart for 9th March, 2022

Chart notes:
American R&B artist Omar Apollo (from Hobart, Indiana) hits #1 on the LGBT chart at midweek with "Invincible", moving up 4 more places from the weekend's #5 position. The track is a collaboration with Canadian singer/songwriter Daniel Caesar. As a child, Omar taught himself to play guitar by watching YouTube videos. He began his musical career by posting his own original songs (in both English and Spanish) at sites like SoundCloud and Spotify, and he released two EPs as an independent artist before being signed to Warner Records. Although he identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community, Omar doesn't wish to give himself any particular labels. In a 2020 interview with The Los Angeles Times, Omar gushed about his LGBTQ fans and said "I get lots of beautiful messages from people. It feels good to know that people find comfort in me expressing myself. If I want to wear a skirt, I wear a skirt. If I want to put on glitter, I'mma wear glitter." Over the past three days, the video for "Invincible" has gained an additional 85,959 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 7.56% since the weekend's chart).

Three videos move up into the Top 10 at midweek. Brazilian drag queen Gloria Groove climbs 9 notches to #4 with "Vermelho". She's joined in the Top 10 by two acts who each make an impressive 12-place leap from their positions on the weekend chart: Swedish singer Tove Lo rises 12 spots to #9 with "How Long?", while British musicians Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama also jump ahead 12 notches to #10 with "Beg For You".

Nine songs fall off the chart to make way for nine new songs. The highest debut at midweek was "I Spit On Your Grave" by British alt-rock singer Zand, entering the chart at #37. Zand (whose real name is Zander Sweeney, and formerly used the stage moniker Seafoal) is originally from Northern Ireland and currently resides in England. Zand identifies as non-binary and prefers to use the pronouns "they/them". Over the past half-week, the video for "I Spit On Your Grave" has gained an additional 370 YouTube views (which is a huge increase of 13.76% over the previous chart period!).

Further down the chart, we have 8 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from England, the U.S.A., Germany, Italy, and Thailand:
  • Chaz Cardigan (from Kentucky, USA)
  • Corvyx (from New York, USA)
  • Kim Petras (from Germany)
  • Del Ro'Yale (from Virginia, USA)
  • Jodie Harsh (from England, UK)
  • Mahmood (from Italy)
  • PP Krit (from Thailand)
  • Shea Diamond (from Michigan, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist and they must be available on YouTube.
