Midweek Music Update

 for 14th August, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made it onto my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on all the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take them an additional few weeks to work their way onto my chart.

Although I mention the total number of views for each video below, song selections are based on YouTube views from the past seven days only.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Survivor" by gay Chilean singer Dani Ride and the queer Chilean vlogger/YouTuber duo known as The Ellas Show. In his last appearance on the LGBT chart late last year, Dani made it all the way to the Top Five (peaking at #5 in November) with "No Existe Nada". His latest song is a cover of the 2001 hit "Survivor" by Destiny's Child, with some new lyrics added in both Spanish and English. As I write this, the clip has 164,050 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, this video has gained an additional 16,288 views (an increase of 11.27% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Harder" by straight (but gay-friendly) English DJ/producer Jax Jones and bisexual American singer Bebe Rexha. Although Jax Jones isn't an LGBT artist, he's appeared on the LGBT chart before when he teamed up with LGBT acts like Years And Years, Jess Glynne, and Demi Lovato. He's also been a regular performer at Pride festivals throughout the UK. Bebe Rexha, who came out publicly as bisexual in 2018, has already had two tracks on the LGBT chart this year: "Last Hurrah" reached #6 in June, and "Call You Mine" (a collaboration with The Chainsmokers) peaked at #4 in July. Their latest video currently has 6,981,321 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Tempo" by queer-friendly American singer Lizzo and straight American rapper Missy Elliott. Lizzo says she doesn't like to label her sexuality, but she's said in the past that she identifies as "a straight bisexual lesbian". She's already had two hits on the LGBT chart this year: "Juice" reached #5 in February, and "Blame It On Your Love" (a collaboration with Charli XCX) is still on the chart but seems to have peaked at #14. Her latest clip now has 8,494,301 views on YouTube.

The third and final Fresh New Release this week is "Um Por Do Sol Na Praia" by gay Brazilian singer Silva and straight Brazilian singer Ludmilla. In Portuguese, the title means "A Sunset on the Beach". Silva has already had two hits on the LGBT chart this year: "Duas Da Tarde" reached #23 in January, and "Brisa" peaked at #30 in February. His newest video currently has 2,475,474 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a fabulous week!
