Midweek Music Update

 for 7th August, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on all the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional few weeks to work their way onto my chart.

Although I mention the total number of views for each video below, song selections are based on YouTube views from the past seven days only.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "My Love" by gay English singer Will Young. In his last appearance on the LGBT chart earlier this year, Will made it all the way to the Top Five (peaking at #4 in May) with "All the Songs". He's planning a UK tour in October. As I write this, his newest clip has 144,612 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, this video has gained an additional 6,321 views (an increase of 4.59% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Flash Pose" by Brazilian drag queen Pabllo Vittar and bisexual English singer Charli XCX. Although she normally records in her native Portuguese, this is Pabllo's first-ever track with all of the lyrics in English. In her last appearance on the LGBT chart a few months ago, Pabllo made it all the way to the Top Ten (peaking at #10 in May) with "Buzina". Her latest video currently has 7,743,694 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Old Town Road" by gay American singer Lil Nas X and straight American singer Billy Ray Cyrus (Miley's dad). Lil Nas X came out as gay in late June, becoming the first-ever artist to come out while at #1 on the Billboard chart. He released this newer, shorter version of the video about two weeks ago to celebrate the song's record-breaking 17th consecutive week on top of the Billboard chart. This clip now has 14,699,390 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday (depending on your time zone) for the latest Top 50 chart and playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a fantastic week!
