Midweek Music Update
 for 21st August, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on all the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional few weeks to work their way onto my chart.

Although I mention the total number of views for each video below, song selections are based on YouTube views from the past seven days only.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Want Me To" by gay American singer Carlos Vara. His last video ("Impossible") has now spent 6 weeks on the LGBT chart so far, and has gotten as high as #13. As I write this, Carlos's latest clip has 87,177 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, this video has gained an additional 28,196 views (an increase of 49.50% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "As You Are" by straight American singer Chris Daughtry. The song's lyrics were written by his wife Deanna, who's now come out as bisexual. Deanna said the song is about her struggle to accept her own sexuality, and the video features images of rainbow Pride flags and same-sex couples. The video currently has 524,230 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "F*ck, I'm Lonely" by straight American musician Lauv and bisexual English singer Anne-Marie. Anne-Marie has already had two hits on the LGBT chart this year, with "Perfect To Me" (which peaked at #31 in January) and "Rewrite the Stars" (a collaboration with James Arthur, which peaked at #10 in February). This clip now has 3,746,953 views on YouTube.

The third and final Fresh New Release this week is "Checkmate" by gay American singer Conan Gray. In his last appearance on the LGBT chart, Conan reached the Top 20 with "Crush Culture" (peaking at #19 in January). His newest video now has 1,174,133 views on YouTube.

That's it for another Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!
