Midweek Chart: 06 April 2022

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Midweek chart for 6th April, 2022

Chart notes:
Argentinian/American artist Baby Yors earns his first #1 on the LGBT chart at midweek with "Freak Out the People", moving up 2 more spots from the weekend's #3 position. The song, mostly performed in Spanish, is a sendup of closed-mindedness and a celebration of freedom of expression. Baby Yors explains, "What inspired me to write it was the bad reaction that my parents had when I came out, and the same old unwanted feedback that conservative societies always have about homosexuality... Also just the ridiculousness behind the old religious speech that involved homosexuality and the figure of the devil. Hopefully people can hear the humor in the song." Over the past three days, the video for "Freak Out the People" has gained an additional 25,787 views on YouTube (which is a huge increase of 11.82% since the weekend's chart!).

Three videos move up into the Top 10 at midweek, including a former #1 that's returning to the Top 10 for a second time after falling out twice: Brazilian drag queen Gloria Groove fell out of the Top 10 this weekend with "Vermelho", but now she rebounds back up 3 more spots to #8. English alt-rock musician Yungblud climbs 9 notches to #7 with "The Funeral". They're joined in the Top 10 by Israeli singer/songwriter Michael Ben David, who's rising 2 more spots to #10 with "I.M."

Nine songs fall off the chart to make way for nine new songs. The highest debut at midweek was "You Could At Least Say Goodbye" by American duo Reyna, entering the chart at #34. Reyna, who are sisters (from Milwaukee, Wisconsin), are releasing their highly-anticipated debut EP on May 6th and this first single is the title track. The lyrics address something we have all become too familiar with: ghosting and the deafening sting of fading love. It explores what they wish the other person had the courage to say and how they handled the situation. In the clip, we see Reyna dressing up mannequins to replace the woman who abandoned them. Eventually one of the sisters discards the mannequin and picks up a leaflet for a breakup school, while the other sister clings to the mannequin because she isn't ready to let go. Over the past half-week, the video for "You Could At Least Say Goodbye" has gained an additional 4,097 YouTube views (which is an astounding increase of 220.86% over the previous chart period!).

Further down the chart, we have 8 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from the U.S.A., Chile, Puerto Rico, France, Sweden, and Austria:
  • King Princess (from New York, USA)
  • Reinder (from Chile)
  • Jordy (from Illinois, USA)
  • Residente (from Puerto Rico) & Ibeyi (from France)
  • Isak Danielson (from Sweden)
  • Aymz (from Austria)
  • Isaac Dunbar (from Massachusetts, USA)
  • Myylo (from Tennessee, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes, with YouTube views accounting for two-thirds of the total points. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist and they must be available on YouTube.
