Midweek Music Update

 for 12th June, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my Top 50 chart & playlist next weekend (based on the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my Top 50 chart & playlist in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this second section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional few weeks for them to make their way onto my chart.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Too Much" by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen. Since the beginning of her career, Carly has been an ally and an advocate for the LGBT community. In her latest clip, Carly is surrounded by dancers who are dressed exactly like her -- including a couple of male dancers in drag. As I write this, the video has 5,588,361 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, it's gained an additional 1,858,040 views (an increase of 53.38% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Never Really Over" by bisexual American singer Katy Perry. More than two years after her last studio album, this track will be the first single off Katy's latest album (which has not yet been given an official release date or title). Russian-German musician Zedd helped write, produce, and mix this song. According to Wikipedia, the single has already reached the charts in 19 countries. The video currently has 45,806,234 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Jaloux" by gay French singer Bilal Hassani. Although Bilal has been releasing music for several years now, his first studio album (entitled Kingdom) was just released at the end of April. "Jaloux" is the third official video from that album (following up on the success of "Roi" and "Fais Beleck"). This clip now has 2,262,479 views on YouTube.

The third and final Fresh New Release this week is "New Eyes" by gay American singer Adam Lambert. This is the second video from his latest album (entitled Velvet). His last single ("Feel Something") has been making a very slow climb toward my Top 50 as well (climbing 7 spots from #67 to #60 last weekend), so it's possible that both tracks might make it onto the LGBT chart soon. Adam's latest video has 3,104,216 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!
