Midweek Music Update

 for 26th June, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my Top 50 chart & playlist next weekend (based on all the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take them an additional few weeks to work their way onto my chart.

Although I mention the total number of views for each video below, the songs are selected based on YouTube views from the past seven days only.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Attention" by lesbian English singer Hannah Trigwell. As a teenager, Hannah taught herself to play guitar and started busking on the streets of her hometown (Leeds, West Yorkshire) before she began posting covers to YouTube and then releasing singles & EPs as an unsigned independent artist. As I write this, the video has 20,382 views on YouTube (an increase of 65.81% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Your Song" by gay English musician Elton John and straight American actor Taron Egerton (who portrays a young Elton in the film Rocket Man). The pair are already on the LGBT chart with their recent performance of Elton's classic 1972 hit "Rocket Man", which debuted this week at #42. "Your Song" is another of Elton's classic hits, and was first released in 1970. This newer video currently has 1,568,054 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Dreamer" by lesbian American singer LP (the stage name of Laura Pergolizzi). LP is also on the LGBT chart already with "When I'm Over You", which moved up 5 spots to #11 this week. Both singles were released several months ago, but are gaining lots of new views with the release of brand-new videos. Both clips were recorded during a live performance at YouTube Space LA. This latest video now has 492,061 views on YouTube.

Under the new chart rules that went into effect this weekend, all new LGBT songs are now held in a queue for 2-12 weeks to see if they can earn enough points to make the Top 50 chart. If a song has failed to make the Top 50 chart after 3 months, it will be removed from the queue and retired. Only two videos are being retired this week (and as before, I've provided links if you're curious and you'd like to watch them). The two retirees for this week are listed below:

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday (depending on your time zone) for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!
