Midweek Music Update

 for 5th June, 2019

The Midweek Music Update (published on Wednesdays) is intended to give you a "sneak peek" at some new music that hasn't made my chart yet. It's comprised of two sections: the Hot New Track and the Fresh New Releases.

Each week, I'll choose one video for the Hot New Track -- one song that is certain to make my chart & playlist next weekend (based on the points it's earned so far).

The Fresh New Releases are two or three videos that appear likely to enter my chart in the near future (based on YouTube views alone). All of the songs in this 2nd section will be relatively recent (i.e., released in the past month or so). Because they are so new, it might take an additional few weeks for them to work their way onto my chart.

Hot New Track:
This week's Hot New Track is "Lit Summer" by American singer Reigen. Last month, he hit the Top Ten on the LGBT chart (peaking at #8) with "High On U". As I write this, Reigen's newest video has 15,439 views on YouTube. In the past week alone, it's gained an additional 5,730 views (an increase of 64.16% from the previous week).

Fresh New Releases:
The first Fresh New Release this week is "Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels" by American musician Todrick Hall. In 2018, Todrick made two appearances on my chart (with "Dems Beats" and "Type"). Chester Lockhart (who's also been featured on my chart & playlist with his own songs) makes a cameo appearance in this clip as one of the dancers. Todrick's latest video currently has 3,500,688 views on YouTube.

The second Fresh New Release this week is "Sweet Spot" by German singer Kim Petras. As much as I would've hesitated to showcase the same artist two weeks in a row, I've committed to letting the statistics choose these videos from the list of eligible tracks (and thus, sending them to the front of the line for a possible entry onto the Top 50 chart). The transgender singer has now released a sixth video in just six weeks, so she's in a race with herself to see which one gets onto the LGBT chart first. This clip now has 949,353 views on YouTube.

The third and final Fresh New Release this week is "A Womxn Will Save Us All" from English trio Indigo Face. In their last appearance on the LGBT chart, the band made it all the way to #1 (with "A Rose Is A Rose", back in January). Their newest video has 18,188 views on YouTube.

That's it for another edition of the Midweek Music Update. Make sure to come back on Saturday or Sunday for the latest Top 50 chart & playlist. Until then, I hope you all have a great week!
