Midweek Chart: 1st September 2021

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Midweek Chart for 1st September, 2021

Chart notes:
American singer/songwriter Fletcher has the new #1 video on the LGBT Midweek Chart with "Healing", moving up 4 places from this weekend's #5 position. The track gained in popularity after it was featured on an episode of the television series Love, Victor. The lyrics focus on the internal rather than the external for this track, inspired by Fletcher's time in quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic. "I think we've all been forced to actually look in the mirror over this past year and a half," Fletcher told VMagazine. "I've been taking inventory and seeing... what needs healing because the reality is that we all need some healing of that little inner child." Over the past three days, the video for "Healing" has gained an additional 73,445 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 7.97% over the previous chart).

Six videos move up into the Top 10 this week, three of which happen to be from American artists (Allison Ponthier at #4 with "Faking My Own Death", Jason Mraz at #5 with "Be Where Your Feet Are", and Lil Nas X returning to the Top 10 with his former #1 hit "Industry Baby"). Another two are from Australian acts: Benji Lewis leaps ahead 15 spots to #7 with "Polaroids", while Ben Hazlewood climbs 6 notches to #9 with "Younger Years". Joining them in the Top 10 is transgender English singer Cavetown, up 5 places to reach #6 with "Idea of Her".

Eight songs fall off the chart to make way for eight new songs. The highest debut was "Cold Heart" by British musicians Elton John and Dua Lipa, entering the chart at #37. The track is a mashup of Elton's hits "Rocket Man" (from 1972) and "Sacrifice" (from 1989). As the lead single off his new album The Lockdown Sessions (which features 16 collaborations Elton recorded during the pandemic), it's already reached the Top 10 on the official charts of six different countries (the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, the U.S.A., Mexico, and El Salvador) & charted in 13 others. Here in the U.S.A., it debuted at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, marking Elton's first appearance on that particular chart in over 21 years, and it reached #3 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart. Over the past half-week, the video for "Cold Heart" has gained an additional 1,219,512 YouTube views (which is a very impressive increase of 16.79% over the chart prior).

Further down the chart, we have 7 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from the U.S.A., Iceland, and Spain:
  • Carlie Hanson (from Wisconsin, USA)
  • Chloe Moriondo (from Michigan, USA)
  • Lizzo (from Texas, USA)
  • the Brothers Osborne (from Maryland, USA)
  • Vök (from Iceland)
  • Melissa Etheridge (from Kansas, USA)
  • Agoney (from Spain)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views & votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist & they must be available on YouTube.
