Chart Week 05 of 2022: 30th January

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ musicians from around the world.

Chart Week #5 of 2022: Week of 30th January

Chart notes:
Brazilian drag superstar Gloria Groove returns to the top of the LGBT chart this weekend, as "Leilão" moves back up 8 spots to reclaim the #1 position for a second nonconsecutive week. Even after 9 weeks on the chart and having already reached #1 once, this track has continued to perform strongly in voting and in views. Gloria is the #1 most-streamed drag performer on Spotify (with fellow Brazilian Pabllo Vittar coming in as a close second place), and she's the #4 most-followed drag queen on Twitter (after Pabllo Vittar, Trixie Mattel, and RuPaul) with just over one million followers. Over the past four days, the video for "Leilão" has gained an additional 1,973,874 views on YouTube (which is an increase of 7.13% since the midweek's chart).

Three videos move up into the Top 10 this weekend, including a return from a former #1 hit: British singer/songwriter Calum Scott rebounds back up 4 places to #9 with "Rise". English vocalist Rita Ora leaps ahead 14 big notches to #8 with "Follow Me". They're joined in the Top 10 by Mexican singer/actor Roberto Carlo, who climbs two more spots to #10 with "Salvaje".

It's noteworthy that there are no American artists in the Top 10 again this week. While artists are never selected for their nationality, the U.S.A. does tend to produce the most music videos (along with Great Britain) and it's unusual that they're all being edged out by their international peers lately. The highest-ranking American act this weekend is Billy Porter, who's at #17 with "Children". However, as I've stated before on this blog, I do not choose the videos or their chart positions (although I do get a vote, it's counted the same as anyone else who votes). I allow the "points" system to determine the charts, and sometimes I am surprised by the result when I crunch the numbers. Any LGBTQ artist is eligible to be included on the chart here, and if they qualify for the Top 50 then they all get an equal chance to reach as high as their votes and views will allow.

Ten songs fall off the chart to make way for ten new songs. The highest debut this weekend was "Let's Talk About" by Estonian singer Mr. Levvis, entering the chart at #37. He wrote the song as an entry for Eesti Laul, which is the song contest that chooses an official entry to represent Estonia at the Eurovision competition. Although a winner will not be selected until February, it has already been announced that Mr. Levvis did not qualify this year. Over the past half-week, the video for "Let's Talk About" has gained an additional 365 YouTube views (which is an increase of 5.64% over the previous chart period).

Further down the chart, we have 9 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from Brazil, the U.S.A., Italy, and Canada:
  • Katy Perry (from California, USA)
  • Wrabel (from Texas, USA)
  • Sem&Stènn (from Italy)
  • Ieuan (from California, USA)
  • Boy Harsher (originally from Georgia, USA & now residing in Massachusetts, USA)
  • Johnny Hooker (from Brazil)
  • Rufus Wainwright (originally from the USA & now living in Canada)
  • Cais (from Brazil)
  • Milahroy (from New York, USA) & Luke Edgemon (from North Carolina, USA)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views and votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist & they must be available on YouTube.
