Chart Week 01 of 2022: 2nd January

Twice a week, Tad's LGBT Music Chart brings you the Top 50 music videos by LGBTQ artists from around the world.

Chart Week #1 of 2022: Week of 2nd January

Chart notes:
The final #1 video of 2021 is also the first #1 of 2022, as Alfie Arcuri rings in the new year by holding onto the top position on the LGBT chart for a second consecutive week with "Devil's Lips". Over the summer, Alfie represented Australia at the New Wave 2021 international music contest in Sochi. New Wave (or Novaya Volna in Russian) features artists from around the world with a television audience of more than 100 million people, mostly in Eastern Europe. After making it all the way to the finals and performing his 2017 hit "If They Only Knew" in front of the judges, Alfie wrote on Facebook that he had just finished "singing my own love song about another man on Russian TV - proud of myself". Over the past seven days, the video for "Devil's Lips" has gained an additional 12,183 views on YouTube (which is a massive increase of 30.27% since last weekend's chart!).

Seven videos move up into the Top 10 this weekend, four of which happen to be from American artists: Jordy (originally from Chicago, Illinois) climbs 9 spots to #4 with "Trevor", Joshua Bassett (from Oceanside, California) rises 15 notches to #6 with "Crisis", Lauren Jauregui (from Miami, Florida) leaps ahead 25 places to #9 with "Don't Wanna Say", and Manila Luzon (from Cottage Grove, Minnesota) goes up 17 positions to #10 with "Hot Couture". Chilean duo Kevin Y Karla jump 14 notches to #3 with their Spanish version of Adele's "Easy on Me". Brazilian musician Jão climbs 10 spots to #5 with "Idiota". They're joined in the Top 10 by Australian singer Keiynan Lonsdale, who's rising 6 notches to #8 with "Gods of the Disco".

Six songs fall off the chart to make way for six new songs. The highest debut this weekend was "Leilão" by Brazilian drag queen Gloria Groove, entering the chart at #36. Gloria recently told PopNow that this song "illustrates the feeling of being an unusual figure in the industry and being unlikely to grow in a market dominated by large corporations." In the lyrics, she sends a message to the big companies that are only interested in her as a brand and are depicted in the clip as bidding on her work at an auction. As she explains, "I have confidence in my work... and it deserves recognition." Over the past week, the video for "Leilão" has gained an additional 2,748,108 YouTube views (which is a huge increase of 19.47% over the previous chart period!).

Further down the chart, we have 5 more debuts by LGBTQ artists from England, the U.S.A., and South Korea:
  • Calum Scott (from England, UK)
  • Jack Hawitt (from England, UK)
  • Paul Usher (from England, UK)
  • Cazwell (from Massachusetts, USA), Chanel Jolé (from California, USA), and Trace Lysette (from Ohio, USA)
  • Ateez (from South Korea)

Chart positions are based on points assigned from a combination of YouTube views & votes. If you'd like to vote for your favorite videos, please feel free to leave a comment on this blog (anonymous comments are permitted) or send me a private message (see the contact info below). Suggestions for new videos are also welcomed, but they must be from an LGBTQ artist & they must be available on YouTube.
